Gerald Leroy "Jerry" Gilbert, 76, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Junction City, Kan., and raised in Vine Grove, where he graduated from Vine Grove High School in 1954. He worked at the printing plant at Fort Knox for more than 20 years. He was a PGA golf professional for more than 30 years and was the project manager for Kerry Landing Golf Course in Marshall County in 1996. He was a high school and college basketball official in Kentucky for more than 25 years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Gilbert; his parents, William Calvin and Thelma Lucille Cox Gilbert; a brother, Larry Gilbert; and a sister, Jeannie Riddle.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sherry Gilbert; one son, Eric Todd Gilbert of Elizabethtown; three daughters, Rhonda (Jeffrey) Pitts, Sherrill Ann Wycoff and Jennifer Leigh Gilbert, all of Elizabethtown; two brothers, David (Dottie) Gilbert of Louisville and Billy Gilbert of Lexington; three sisters, Lynne (Jimmy) Sims of Killeen, Texas, Patsy Sharkey of Elizabethtown and Barbara (Norbert) Skees of Hodgenville; three grandsons, Jay (Jen) Pitts and Zachary (Bailey) Pitts, both of Louisville, and Jaxson Clifford Duvall of Mammoth Cave; and one great-grandson, Preston James Pitts of Louisville.
The funeral is at noon Saturday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and continues at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
