Harry Lee Whitacre, 55, of Radcliff, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
Sgt. Whitacre was in the U.S. Air Force
for 14 years serving in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. While serving in the Gulf War, he made 235 in-flight refueling operations. His awards and commendations include: Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, AF Overseas Ribbon-Long, AF Good Conduct Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon, AFBMT Honor Graduate Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with two OLCS, AF Outstanding Unit Award with one OLC, Combat Readiness Medal, AF Commendation Medal and the South West Asia Campaign Medal.
Harry was a graduate of North Hardin High School and Murray State University and took several classes while in the Air Force.
He was an Honorable Kentucky Colonel and a lifemember of the DAV.
He was employed at Publishers Printing Company in Lebanon Junction.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard M. Whitacre.
He is survived by his mother, Astrid Whitacre of Radcliff; a sister, Doris Whitacre of Elizabethtown; a niece, Shannon Spears of Elizabethtown; and a nephew, Derrick Spears of Elizabethtown.
A committal service with military honors is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Kentucky Veterans Ceme-tery-Central in Radcliff.
Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff is in charge of arrangements.
