James Albert "Sonny" Johnson, 84, of Elizabethtown, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation in Radcliff.
Sonny suffered a paralyzing stroke on Christmas Day 2012. He was a retired heavy equipment operator from Local 181 Union in Louisville. He did chainsaw carving and loved to fish, hunt, play pool and spend time with his loving family and friends. He was one of 14 siblings.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lil Humphrey Johnson; his parents, Manuel and Frances Farris Johnson; three brothers, Roy Johnson, Dick Johnson and Bud Johnson; and three sisters, Gertie Pike, Lou Masden and Mary VanMeter.
He is survived by two children, Mimi (Sandro) Smith and James (Margaret) Johnson; three brothers, Harvey Johnson, Billy Johnson and Duggie Johnson; four sisters, Addie Lee Shumate, Dot Mayfield, Doe Collins and Joyce Kirtley; four grandchildren, Chia-menti Smith, Myra Dempsey, Kent Johnson and Brent Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Noah Ashley, James Wyatt Johnson and Ava Ashley.
A memorial service is at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Brother Mike Bell officiating.
Visitation is from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
