Joseph A. "Art" Newton Sr.

Joseph A. "Art" Newton Sr., 83, of Bardstown, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at his residence. He was born June 24, 1930, in Manton.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Kentucky Wine and Spirits, a mem-ber of American Legion Post No. 121 and was of the Catholic faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Gean Newton; his parents, Hobert and Annie Newton; and five brothers, L.H. Newton, Charles Newton, Jim Newton, Melvin Newton and Ruben Newton.

He is survived by three daughters, Sheila A. Lyvers of Bardstown, Charlotte (David) King of Blytheville, Ark., and Debbie (Jimmy) Lyvers of Bardstown; two sons, Joseph A. (Peggy) Newton Jr., owner of Players Dugout, of Sonora, and Dean W. (Eva) Newton of Bardstown; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Barbara Lydan and Georgie Grims both of Louisville and Rosemary Koch of Maryland.

His funeral is at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown with burial in Bardstown Cemetery with the Rev. Coleman Howlett officiating.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
