Keith F. Nichols

Keith F. Nichols, 84, of Elizabethtown, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at his home after a short illness.

Keith's life journey began in Varna, Ill., on Jan. 9, 1929, where his parents had gone to find work during the Great Depression. He grew up in the west end of Louisville and attended Shawnee High School. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Keith had many occupations over the years from maintenance, farming and sales. He worked at Henry Vogt, P. Lorillard and Belnap Hardware. He sold real estate and was a salesman at Central Chevrolet in Mount Washington for many years, where he made lasting friendships.

He worked all his life and in retirement he and his wife purchased the Elizabethtown Crossroads Camp-ground. He loved camping and was a people person so this was a great fit for his energetic, friendly personality. He loved getting to know each person and enjoyed their friendship and seeing them each time they camped. Many became personal friends and would not camp anywhere else. They also loved his true stories.

He loved his family and all the times the whole family could be together. He took great joy in being a grandfather, "Pap pap" and "Paw paw," and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, Frank and Eula Wilson Nichols; and three sisters, Helen Neuner, Barbara Hale and Ruth Browning.

Keith is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol Ann Nichols; five sons, Michael (Francie) Nichols, Richard (Lisa) Tunget, Robert (Brooke) Tunget, Roger Tunget and Ronald (Sherry) Embry; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Nichols; and one sister, Mary Ann Beatty.

The funeral is at noon Thursday, July 18, at Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Wayne Tomes officiating. Burial follows in Mount Washington Cemetery.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continues from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
