Lester Seymour Slaughter

Lester Seymour Slaughter, 90, of Elizabethtown, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Hardin County and a World War II Army veteran who served under Gen. Patton in the 11th Armor Division. He was in the Armor Column that broke through the German lines at Bastogne to save the 101st Airborne Division from being overrun or captured. He was decorated with three battle stars and the Purple Heart. He retired from civil service at Fort Knox in 1979. He loved to fish, hunt and grow a garden.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Nellie Clark Slaughter; his parents, William Scott and Nettie Hager Slaughter; and five brothers, David, Maxwell, Sidney, Stanley and Wayne.

He is survived by his daughter, Doris J. (Galen) Willcox of Elizabethtown; two grandsons, Tom (Diana) Willcox of Purcellville, Va., and Joey Willcox of Bowling Green; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Liam and Evan Willcox of Purcellville, Va.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Brothers Joe Murphy and Mickey Lord officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday and continues at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
