Lilly F. Pike, 95, of Flaherty, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at her home with her children at her side.
Lilly was a native of Meade County for most of her life. She was a faithful member of St. Martins of Tours Catholic Church and loved the parishioners who always gave her special attention. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was well known and loved by many and never met a stranger.
She worked in the school cafeteria at Flaherty, as a maid at Doe Run Inn, and retired as a cook/ baker after working for more than 10 years in the Fort Knox School System.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Twyman Benedict "Dick" Pike; her parents, Minnie Mattingly and James Augustus "Gus" Whelan; a daughter, Carlotta Ann Pike; four brothers, Harry Whelan, John Kenneth Whelan, William Golan Whelan and James Adolf Whelan; five sisters, Anna Margaret Lancaster Rager, Minnie Lucille Ray, Mary Juanita Shircliffe, Thelma Agnita Ray and Dorothy Leanda Adkisson.
She is survived by seven children, James Alton (Barbara) Pike, Doris Jean Campbell, Joseph Russell (Bernice) Pike, Charles Benedict (Debbie) Pike, Nancy Lucille (Titus) Lockard, Martin Dale (Janet) and Raphael Sylvester (Kay) Pike; a sister, Georgia Lee Hardesty of Shepherdsville; and a brother, Joseph Eugene Whelan of Flaherty.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Martins of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty with the Rev. Daniel Lincoln officiating.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continues after 9 a.m. Thursday at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove.
