Maxine Dile Shanks

Maxine Dile Shanks, 73, of Elizabethtown, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, surrounded by her family.

She was a fantastic cook who retired from G.C. Burkhead Elementary school Cafeteria. She was a fine example of southern hospitality with a twinkling in her smile and her trademark slow southern drawl. She attended Crossroads Baptist Church and was a member of Wesley Hilltop Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carl "J.C." Shanks Sr.; her parents, Claude and Lena Estes Dile; six brothers, Harlan Dile, Robert Dile, Rollin Dile, Richard Dile, Leon Dile and James Dile; and two sisters, Ethel Mae Berry and Magdeline Wilson.

She is survived by her two daughters, Vicky (Donnie) Fox and Carolyn Shanks, all of Elizabethtown; two sons, Jimmy Shanks of Elizabethtown and Danny Shanks of Flaherty; a sister, Mary Ann Russell of Scottsville; two brothers, Freeman (Bessie) Dile of Frankfort and Henry (Rosie) Dile of New Haven; and three grandchildren, Keaton Shanks, Tracy Ann Bevars and Tyler Bevars.

The funeral is at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Rob Sumrall officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday and continues after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
