Murrel "Hopper" Tharp, 75, of Hodgenville, drove a John Deere through the gates of Heaven on his birthday, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013.
He was a former employee of Dixie Farm Store in Elizabethtown and Farm Supply in Hodgenville. He was a lifelong farmer, member of Buffalo Baptist Church and was an avid Louisville basketball fan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eugenia VanCleave; and a sister, Charlotte Poulter.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Hutcherson Tharp of Hodgenville; one daughter, Vicki (Tommy) Melton of Hodgenville; one son, Cale (Tracy) Tharp of Hodgenville; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Erik) Clifford, Clinton Melton, Aletha (Blake) Bault, Dustin "Doc" Tharp, Calea Tharp, Brookellen Tharp and Ethan Tharp; one great-grandchild, Jade Clifford; two stepgrandchildren, Allie Perkins and Chase Watson; and his dog, Blackie.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in the chapel of Rust-Wright Funeral Home in Hodgenville with the Revs. Mick Bowen, Roger Peper and Paul Richey officiating. Burial follows in South Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Hodgenville.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Rust-Wright Funeral Home in Hodgenville is in charge of arrangements.
