Ralph Royster

Ralph Royster, 92, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Cypress Grove Nursing Home.

He was born May 26, 1920, in Robards. He was a retired college professor and assistant superintendent of schools at Elizabethtown Independent Schools in Elizabethtown. He was a retired major in the U.S. Air Force. He fought in World War II and was stationed in Europe. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Kentucky Teachers Retirement Association and Wash-ington Avenue Baptist Church. Ralph's hobbies included playing the harmonica, fiction writing, reading, science and stamp and coin collecting.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Jean (Fisher) Royster of Evansville; four daughters, Rebecca S. McRoy (John) of Kingsville, Mo., Kathleen K. Gregory (David) of Morehead, Cynthia R. Jones (David) of Evansville and Kimberly R. Schmeits (Hans) of Brussels, Belgium; four grandsons, Ben McRoy (Shelby) of Youngsville, N.C., Michael Greg-ory (Samantha) of Smithfield, Jared Jones of Evansville and Mateo Schmeits of Brussels; five granddaughters, Carrie McRoy of Blue Springs, Mo., Ashley McRoy of Kingsville, Anna Gregory of Morehead, Maddie Jones of Evansville and Olivia Schmeits of Brussels; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Alexander East Chapel in Evansville with the Revs. John McRoy and Ben McRoy and Dr. David Gregory officiating. Burial follows in Sunset Memorial Park.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
