Remona L. "Monie" Hughes, 71, of Bardstown, formerly of Hodgenville, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Fort Pierce, Fla.
She was the former Remona L. Kappel, a native of Lebanon Junction. She was retired from the former Citizens Bank of Louisville, now PNC Bank. She was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Thomas Brown; her parents, John L. and Helen L. Fowler Kappel; and a sister, Barbara D. Lepper.
Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey Hughes of Bardstown; a daughter, Kim Cameron (Rod) of Radcliff; two sons, Ben Hughes (Jo Ann) of Bardstown and David Whelan (Beverly) of Howardstown; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Tommy (Becky) Kappel of Lebanon Junction.
A Mass of Christian burial is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Brian Kenney officiating. Burial follows in Red Hill Cemetery in Hodgenville.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continues at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Kappel Funeral Home in Lebanon Junction. A prayer vigil is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
