Robert C. "Bob" Wade

Robert C. "Bob" Wade, 79, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at his residence.

He farmed in the Glendale area and raised corn, soybeans and small grains. Mr. Wade graduated from Glendale High School and held a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Science from the University of Illinois. Bob and his wife, Ella Mae, have three sons, Steve, Tommy and Robert Jr. The Wades are members of First Presbyterian Church in Elizabethtown, where he has served as trustee, deacon and elder. Mr. Wade served two years in the Army with 16 months in Korea.

He joined the Nolin RECC Board in 1970 and served as president until 1995. He has served as chairman and as a board member of the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives. He served on the Planning and Objectives Committee of the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC) in Washington, D.C.

A partial list of Mr. Wade's community involvement includes Hardin County Extension Feed Grain Committee treasurer, Glendale Lions Club member, Helping Hand director, PNC Bank director, Elizabethtown Community College Foundation director, past president and board member of North Central Kentucky Education Foundation, member of the University of Kentucky Community College Futures Commission and past chairman of Hardin County Extension District Foundation. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer of Kentucky Award and the Hardin County Distinguished Citizens Award in 2005.

He was appointed by Governor Jones to the Public Advisory Committee of Kentucky Outlook 2000: A Strategy for Kentucky Third Century.

Mr. Wade was recognized as recipient of the R.R. Thomas Award for Orderly Development of Hardin County. He also received the Hardin County Farm City Relations Award and the Kentucky Farm Bureau Award for Distinguished Service to Kentucky Agriculture.
His hobbies included canoeing, hiking, camping and travel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Campbell and Alice Wade.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae; three sons, Steven R. (Conny) Wade, Thomas C. Wade and Robert C. (Jill) Wade Jr.; two siblings, Campbell (Mary Ann) Wade and Katherine (Larry) Williams; and nine grandchildren, Victoria Wade, Tyler Wade, Shelby Wade, Wyatt W. Adkins, Campbell Wade, Candace Wade, Matthew C. (Sarah) Wade, James R. Wade and Christopher M. Wade.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Skip Dunford, Dee H. Wade and Brother Mike Bell officiating. Burial follows in Glendale Christian Church Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
