Thomas Chapman Howard, 85, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Atlanta, passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2012.
Born Jan. 20, 1927, to the late George and Sara Howard of Atlanta, he was the grandson of George P. Howard and Laura Colquitt, also formerly of Atlanta. Thomas was the great-grandson of Alfred H. Colquitt, who was a lawyer, Methodist minister, U.S. senator, governor of Georgia and brigadier general in the Civil War.
Thomas grew up in Atlanta and attended Georgia State University. Upon his retirement from Smith, Kline and Beecham of Atlanta, he worked at the Hardin County Public Library. Tom loved to read, and enjoyed music, art, photography, history, literature and cooking. His children and grandchildren were his life, and he will be missed by them immensely.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Howard Beard (Kenny) of Elizabethtown and Susan Chapman Howard of Austin, Texas; and one son, Michael David Howard of Mayer, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Matthew Mastrom of Kennesaw, Ga., Jacob Beard of Starkville, Miss., Susie Beard of Elizabethtown and Aaron How-ard of Mayer.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. John Vaught officiating. Burial follows in Colesburg Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and continues at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
