Thomas Downey Jr.

Thomas Downey Jr., 84, of Radcliff, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

He was a retired first sergeant of the U.S. Army with more than 29 years of service. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, Professional Men's Club, Pinochle Club and a former bus driver for Hardin County Schools.

He had a passion for repairing bicycles and giving them to children of the neighborhood or any child who needed one.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Thomas Sr.; a son, Michael Ray; and a sister, Sarah Francis Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Downey; two sons, Thomas Wayne Downey of Louisville and Glenn Taylor Downey of Radcliff; a daughter, Patricia Ann Downey of Radcliff; four grandchildren, Edmund, Travis, Lauren and D'Ante'; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy Kenney of North Middletown and JoAnn Reed of Cleveland, Ohio.

The funeral is 1 p.m. today at Percell & Sons Funeral Home. Burial follows in North Hardin Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is after 9 a.m. today.
