The Rev. Carl George Gilland, 77, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at his home.

He was a native of Carthage, Ohio, and retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean War and the Vietnam Era. He was formerly the director of the Chamber of Commerce in Syracuse, Indiana and a member of American Legion Post No. 113 in Elizabethtown.
Carl was ordained an Episcopal deacon in 1993 and served in the Dioceses of Northern Indiana, Chicago, Iowa and Kentucky; he also served as minister at Fort Knox.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron G. and Lelia P. Parrish Gilland; and a sister, Patricia Lynn Bentley.
He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Linda Hughes; three sons, Steven Gilland, David (Lisa) Gilland of Clayton, North Carolina, and Andrew Gilland; four stepchildren, Laura (Scott) Schroeder of Clarksville, Tennessee, Thomas (Elizabeth) Delaney of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Michele (Mike) Herald and Andrew (Jennifer) Delaney, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two brothers, Byron D. Gilland Sr. and Patrick F. Gilland; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabethtown with The Right Rev. Terry White, Bishop of Kentucky, and the Rev. Ellen Morell officiating. Burial follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
