Elmer W. Oliver, 92, of Sonora, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Thompson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Mr. Oliver was retired from the United States Army after serving from 1942 to 1962. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean
War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was also former owner and operator of Layne Brothers Inc. and Oliver Trailer Park.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Woodrow, Lee and Paul; and one sister, Ruth.

Survivors include his wife, Bertie Oliver, of Sonora; two sons, Brad Oliver, of Oklahoma and Joe Oliver and his wife, Monica, of Sonora; five grandchildren, Duke, Jeff, Josh, Casey and Brooke; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maria McGregory and Hester Offenberger, both of Marietta, Ohio.

The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the chapel of Coffey & Chism Funeral Home in Vine Grove with Brother Kevin Stamps officiating. A private burial follows at North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff with military honors at a later date.

Visitation is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and continues after the service on Friday.
