Ernest D. Brooks, 83, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at his residence.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, who served for 20 years. He worked for Pucketts Gulf of Elizabethtown for 25 years; was a member of Temple Hill Apostolic Church in Boston, Kentucky, and attended Providence Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Louise Vance Self Brooks; a son, James G. Self; his parents, Ernest D Brooks Sr. and Laura Clara LaCrosse Brooks; a sister, Glenna L. Reed; and a brother, John R. Brooks.

Survivors include his daughter, Regina Sue (Dave) Henry of Rock Hill; three sons, Jesse E. (Ann) Self of Elizabethtown, John E. (Linda) Self of Louisville and Richard J. (Judy) Self of Gilbertsville; a sister, Annie L. Crebessa of Belding, Michigan; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Brother Bruce Perry officiating. Burial follows in Magnolia Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and continues at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
