Retired Chief Warrant Officer 2 Armand "Lee" J. Letendre, 83, of Flaherty, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013.

He was born Sept. 19, 1929, in Springfield, Mass., and was known to family and friends as "Lee." He served more than 23 years in the U.S. Army. He was a decorated Korean and Vietnam War veteran and a Fort Knox federal civilian service retiree. He was a devoted father and grandfather to his own and to many others including the times he served as a foster parent. He was well known as the man in the blue hat.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Jean Rake Letendre on May 29, 1990; and his parents, Urbain and Lucia Letendre.
He is survived by three children, Patricia Hager of Flaherty, Jeani Letendre-Langdon of Radcliff and Deborah (Steve) Warren of Shepherdsville; a son-in-law, Greg Hager of Flaherty; six grandchildren, Chris-tina (Matthew) Pike, Brittany Hager, Connor Langdon, Steven Campbell II, Giselle Henry and a special granddaughter, Lisa Hobbs; a sister, Lorraine Johnson of Cincinnati; and a brother, Roger Letendre of East Longmeadow, Mass.
The funeral is at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Burial, with full military honors, follows in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church Cemetery in Flaherty.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continues at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A prayer service is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
