Richard Thomas Showalters Sr., 72, of Magnolia, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 19 years of service.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Thomas Showalters Jr.; his parents, John and Sara Lee Phillips Showalters; a sister, Mary Jane Foster; and a brother, Arthur Showalters.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Showalters; a daughter, Misty (David Botts Jr.) Showalters of Munfordville; a son, Tommy (Cheryl) Showalters of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, Brandy (Kevin Vessels) Showalters, Amber (Cory) Whitaker, Ricky Showalters and Megan (Victor) Hardy; and six great-grandchildren, Haley Miller, Jayden Whitaker, Victor Hardy III, Adyson Vessels, Emalynn Whitaker and Carlyse Hardy.
A memorial service is at 2 p.m. EDT Friday, March 28, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Brother Ben Benningfield officiating. Scattering of the ashes will follow on the family farm.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday and continues at noon EDT Friday at the funeral home.
There will be no visitation on Thursday.
