Ruth Elizabeth Ada Wisner Jarboe, 98, born Feb. 6, 1915, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, a life well lived.

Beloved of all who knew her, Ruth was born in the hills of West Virginia to a loving family. She had two sisters and one brother who have all gone on before her. She attended college at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. She graduated and went on to become a teacher for 10 years in rural Kentucky. In 1943, she married John Wayne Jarboe. They went through World War II and the difficult economic times of that era together. John served in the European campaign during the war and Ruth worked as a supervisor in a munitions factory to support the war effort.

Following the war, they became farmers in Breckinridge County, where she taught school, and they later moved to Hardin County. "During their 29 years of marriage they inspired our family with their loving devotion to each other and to us."

In March 1972 she lost the love of her life, John, in a farming accident. They raised two daughters who survive her, Joyce Omohundro, wife of Michael Omohundro, and Susan Vertrees, wife of Frankie Vertrees.

She was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church where she served her fellow Christians and community in various roles for 50 years.

Ruth also is survived by two nieces, Margaret Ruth Belk and Jean Mobley, to whom she was like a second mother. She had a granddaughter, her namesake, Ruth Graham; and three grandsons, Wayne Vertrees, John Graham and Timothy Vertrees. She also was blessed with a number of great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, all of whom love and miss her.

"Her exemplary life of love and devotion to others will continue to inspire us."

A memorial service is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
