Corby Powers Obituary

Corby Lee Powers Jr., 73, of Elizabethtown, passed into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

\
Corby pursued a career in law enforcement, graduating from the Kentucky State Police Academy in 1961. During his police career, he served as an administrative sergeant at Post 4 in Elizabethtown. He was honored to be part of the Executive Security Detail in Frankfort under Governors Louie B. Nunn and Martha Layne Collins. Corby was my sports hero at FFHS. I admired his basketball talents & I tried to be as great a player as he was. Much later, our paths crossed during the 1980's. We were working for the election of Martha Layne Collins as Governor . Corby was a Kentucky state trooper assigned to
provide her security. I really enjoyed reliving those memories we both had as Aces ! Corby is an outstanding example of what life in Cloverport & at FFHS was all about. My prayers are extended to the family & to so many other people that have been positively impacted by the life of Corby .

I was also a sergeant at Post 4 some years after Sgt. Powers. I heard so many of the personnel praise him and they missed him so. He must have been a very fine man/ trooper.

To the Powers family I send our deepest condolences from my family. May God ease your sadness. Corby was my first supervisor at the jail when I started my career many years ago. I often reflect on his many words of advice and wisdom on many issues that I have dealt with. His leadership and guidance demanded nothing but the best of what I could achieve.
Your legacy lives on brother so you can rest easy, those of us whose lives that you touched will carry the torch onward. Rest easy and God bless.
