Dennis Timothy Whitaker, 84, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Monroe, Mich., went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

He retired from Detroit Stoker in Monroe in 1992, was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Monroe. Since retirement, he had made his home in Somerset and Jefferson City, Tenn. He had resided in Elizabethtown for the last two years and attended First Church of the Nazarene.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henley and Minnie Whitaker; two brothers, Louis and Darrell Whitaker; and two sisters, Jeanette Luthy and Erma Dudley.
He is survived by the love of his life, Betty Jo Whitaker of Elizabethtown; one son, David (Linda) Whitaker; three daughters, Karen (Terry) Durocher, Cheryl (Tommy) Benitez-Metcalf and Lori (John) Floering; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral is Monday, Nov. 19 at Rupp Funeral Home in Monroe with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park in Lasalle, Mich.
