Ernest Leo Singer, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, in Little Rock, Ark.

He served his country for eight years as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and for 30 years as an engineering analyst for the Naval Ordinance Plant in Louisville. He served his Roman Catholic Church as an ordained deacon. He was in the first Deaconate class of 1976 and served at various parishes throughout the Archdiocese. His last parish ministries were two parishes combined: St. Mary Magdalene in Payneville and St. Therese in Rhodelia in Meade County near Brandenburg.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Blanche and Cricket Singer, and a brother, Louis Paul Singer. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Margie Fritz Singer; two brothers, Charles Earl Singer and William Michael (Mary) Singer; a sister, Alice (Tony) Fortwengler; and numerous nephews and nieces. A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church with the Rev. Ben Brown officiating. Burial follows in St. John Cemetery.
