Retired Sgt. 1st Class George LaBella, 76, of Upton, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018, at his home.

He was born Nov. 18, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York. He was a U.S. Army medic for 23 years and also served 1 tour in Vietnam. He retired from civil service after 23 years at Ireland Army Community Hospital as a podiatry technician.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Conchetta LaBella; a sister, Marie (Bill) Flaherty; and a brother, Joe LaBella.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Ruby M. LaBella of Upton; two daughters, Theresa (Jim) Conkle of Texas and Omega (Brian) Schoup of Florida; five sons, George LaBella of California, Anthony LaBella of Texas, Tony Perkins of Covington, Tom (Julie) Perkins of Sonora and Troy (Donna) Perkins of Leitchfield; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five nieces.

The funeral is at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Manakee Funeral Home in Sonora with Father Brian Johnson and Pastor Alicia Akridge officiating. Burial with military honors follows in Sonora Cemetery.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
