Hershall Eugene "Gene" Roach, 89, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Cabell County, W.Va., and served in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Morrison Masonic Lodge No. 76 F&AM and Kosair Shrine Temple in Louisville. He retired from Swope Motors where he was the manager.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie B. and Minnie May Farren Roach; two brothers, Harry R. Roach and James E. Roach; and two sisters, Beulah Camp and Louise Shears.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Lois Skaggs Roach; two daughters, Carolyne Slayton-Knox and Donna Kessinger, both of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Sharon Ray of South Carolina; four grandchildren, Shannon (Carrie) Slayton, Cassandra (Brien) Black, Seth (Kelley) Slayton and Kyle Kessinger; and eight great-grandchildren, Jacob, Elizabeth, Colin, Samantha and Hannah Slayton, Chase Kiser, Hayden Kessinger and Kendall Black.
A memorial service is at noon Saturday, March 2, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.
