Iva Lee Owsley, 87, of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Helmwood Healthcare Center.
She was a native of Hardin County, a long-time member of Cecilia Baptist Church and a charter member of Living Faith Baptist Fellowship. She held numerous officer positions since the 1950s in the Stephensburg and Cecilia homemakers clubs, served as the Hardin County Homemakers president from 1969 to 1971 and from 1987 to 1989 and was a Hardin County Master Farm Homemaker. She was a member of the Hardin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and began volunteering in 1984 knitting hats for newborns. She was the wife of former Hardin County Sheriff and Circuit Court Clerk David Owsley and a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Josephine Mobley; her husband, David Owsley; her son, Pat Owsley; and three brothers, Jodie, G.W. and Buddy Mobley.
Survivors include a son, Larry (Lois) Owsley of Prospect; a daughter Karen (Barry) Birdwhistell of Elizabethtown; a daughter-in-law, Linda Owsley of Cecilia; two brothers, Robert (Shirley) Mobley of McMinnville, Tenn., and Mike Mobley of Sonora; six grandchildren, Becca Owsley of Rineyville, Jason (Brenda) Owsley of Glasgow, David (Rachel) Owsley of Louisville, Sara (Sanjay) Sood of Claremont, Calif., Amanda (Jasper) Ward of Louisville, and Tyler Birdwhistell of Rineyville and his fiancé, Kelsey Klingenfus, of Louisville; a step-great-granddaughter Tessa Norris of Glasgow; five great-grandsons, Lincoln and William Sood, Jax and Miles Ward, and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Living Faith Baptist Fellowship, 401 W. Poplar in Elizabethtown, with the Rev. Roger Jasper presiding. Burial follows at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continues from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy can take the form of donations to the Pat Owsley Memorial FFA Scholarship fund and the Living Faith Baptist Fellowship building fund.
