John C. Ferguson, 69, of Sonora, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012.
The Guest Book is expired.
The youngest son of Sanford Grover and Demetra Ferguson, John grew up on the family farm in Sonora and graduated from Sonora High School in 1960. He attended the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1964 with a degree in agriculture. In 1963, John mar-ried Carol Reynolds and they lived on campus until graduation. Rather than accepting a position in teach-ing upon his graduation, he decided to take care of the family farm. He continued farming until the mid-1970s. He owned a trucking company for 20 years before concentrating on hypnotherapy, a career he enjoyed until his death. In addition to farming, truck-ing and practicing hypnotherapy, John was known as the truck drivin' storyteller and performed all over the country. He also was a published author.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol; their three children, Charles (Stephanie) Ferguson, Teresa (James) Conder and Glynda (Jon) Himebaugh; one sister, Jo Ann (Eldon) Sturgeon; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. He had seven grandchildren who loved him dearly, Kristin and Clayton Conder, Becca and Alex Himebaugh and Carter, Trent and Chaz Ferguson.
Per John's wishes, his body will be cremated.
A celebration of life is from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 18 at the old Sonora Elementary School behind First Baptist Church.
