John H. Blackburn, 79, of Elizabethtown, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was a native of Newton County, Mississippi, retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service and retired in 2001 as the Hardin County road supervisor for the state of Kentucky. He was a deacon and a member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church, DAV and American Legion and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Raymond "R.R." and Vida Blackburn; and a brother.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth A. Blackburn; two daughters, Robin (Marvin) Barker and Lori (John) Timbers, all of Elizabethtown; two sons, John (Beverly) Blackburn Jr. of New Salsbury, Ind., and Jeffery (Iliana) Blackburn of Plainfield, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Sara, Hannah, Brandi, Brooke, Blake, Josh, Jessica, Maegan, Josh, Daniel and Jacqueline; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Jamie.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Elizabethtown Baptist Church with Brother Danny Haynes officiating. Burial follows in North Hardin Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the building fund at Elizabethtown Baptist Church.
