John Handley "Hank" Thompson, 83, of Elizabethtown, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 29, 1934. He retired from Louisville Gas & Electric after 27 years of service and was a farmer and a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Pearl Slayton Thompson; a sister, Versie Clopton; and seven brothers, Gabriel, William Douglas, Leamon, Joe, Edward, Jesse and Alvin Thompson.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Eads Thompson; a son, Roger Thompson of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Anetra (Bruce) Palmer-Ball of Louisville; two sisters, Geneva (Buddy) Milby of Magnolia and Martha Jane Turner of Hodgenville; a brother, Clarence (Peggy) Thompson of Creal; and a close family friend, Cheynna Grissom, whom he loved like a granddaughter.

The funeral is at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with the Rev. Roger Pepper officiating. Burial follows in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Visitation is 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and continues at 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
