John M. Miller, 84, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at his home in Elizabethtown.
Originally from Prattville, Ala., at the age of 19, John joined the U.S. Army Air Corps where he met the love of his life and future wife of 63 years, Jennie. Upon leaving the Corps, he dedicated the next 39 years to civil service. He then retired to Kentucky. Realizing he wasn't fully finished with retirement, he worked as a door greeter at Wal-Mart for seven years before hanging up his vest.
He loved Westerns, reading mysteries and old cowboy tales, telling stories of days gone by and just enjoyed looking outside watching life go on.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie Ruth Miller; two daughters, Diana Merrill of Elizabethtown and Betty (Jim) Moudry of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family has chosen not to have a public service.
