Mr. Leo Sandefur, 93, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014, at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

Born in Sebert, he was the son of the late Elbridge and Lelia Griffin Sandefur. He was retired from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and was a member of the AFFES Retiree Employee Association - Augusta Chapter. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and as mayor of Radcliff from 1960-1961. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Augusta, Richmond Masonic Lodge No. 412 and Eastern Star. As a mason, Leo was a Past High Priest Royal Arch Mason and Past Master of Royal and Select Masons. At Hillcrest, he served as a deacon and on various committees and was appointed Deacon Emeritus. Leo also was a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Stinnett Sandefur.
He is survived by three children, Donald (Janet) Leo Sandefur of Ocala, Florida, Betty (Gary) James of Greensboro, Georgia, and Robert (Wanda) Lee Sandefur of Vidalia, Georgia; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral is at 1 p.m. today at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Augusta with Dr. L. Gordon Robinson officiating. Interment follows in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family received friends Sunday, June 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road in Augusta.
