Lottie Mae Miller, 88, a lifetime resident of Elizabethtown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Helmwood Healthcare Center.

Lottie will be remembered by her lifetime work in the Democratic Party and in the many other organizations in which she has been actively involved. She was a member of Elizabethtown Junior Woman's Club, Kentucky Public Retirees Inc., the chamber of commerce, the Business and Professional Woman's Club, The Hardin County Democratic Party Executive Committee and, for many years, board member of Memorial United Methodist Church.

The example she set for all who knew her remains a symbol of strength, perseverance and faith in what she believed. Her support and compassion for others leaves an unfilled void in the lives of her family and friends.
Lottie retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, having worked previously in the Cabinet for Human Resources, North Central Comprehensive Care Center, Elizabethtown Hardin County Chamber of Commerce, Crucible Steel Co. and Kentucky Utilities.

She received many awards, among them 1971 Kentucky National Guard Certificate of Appreciation for support of Youth Activities, 1972 Elizabethtown and U.S. Jaycees Certificate of Appreciation, 1973 Jr. Achievement Citation for outstanding service to American Youth, 1973 Recognition by Hardin County Environmental Council for support of a lean and healthy environment, 1974 Kentucky Historical Events Commission in recognition for meritorious efforts in the observance of the Commonwealth Bicentennial Celebration, 1974 Elizabethtown Hardin County Chamber of Commerce "Big E" Award for outstanding Community Service, 1973-74 the Business and Professional Women's Woman of the Year Award, and 1999 Elizabethtown Junior Woman's Club Hall of Fame Award.

Her life of giving to others professionally, her church, family and friends have been a priority all of her life. In recent times, she has been confined primarily to her home.

She is survived by a brother, R.B. "Abe" Milller; a sister-in-law, Jean Miller; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Rebecca Heckler.

The funeral is at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Memorial United Methodist Church with Drs. Michael Gibbons and Rachel Marshall officiating. Burial follows in Hardin Memorial Park.

Visitation begins at noon Wednesday at the church.
