Ray Edwin Johnson went home to be with the Lord at 4:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at his home. He was 76 years old.

A Hardin County native, Ray was the son of the late Albert and Pauline Johnson and also was pre-ceded in death by one brother, Larry Johnson.

Ray graduated from the University of Kentucky with a masters degree in agriculture and then attended North Carolina State, where he received his PhD. He worked at the University of Illinois for several years and then began his 30-year tenure at Western Kentucky University, moving up the ladder quickly to become a professor of agriculture and also served as acting department head. After retiring from WKU in 1997, he enjoyed getting back to cows, farming, traveling and quality time with friends and family; especially his precious grandchildren and wife.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Sarah; a daugh-ter, Pamela Felts and her husband, Donald, and their two daughters, Karlie Rae and Emma Brooke; a stepdaughter and stepson, Jennifer Triplett and Mark Triplett and his wife, Pat, of Tennessee and a stepdaughter, Gayle Pava of Bowling Green and her three sons; two sisters, Carole Cook and her husband, Wendell, of Elizabethtown, and Linda Tweedy and her husband, Donald, of Bowling Green; a sister-in-law Nancy Calvert; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at White Stone Quarry Baptist Church, 2764 Blue Level Road, Bowling Green, with Johnnie Jenkins, pastor emeritus of Conerstone Community Church in Wadsworth, Ill., and Pastor Ed Goodman of White Stone Quarry Baptist Church officiating.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and continues from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the church.
