Robert Eugene "Gene" Wright, 86, of Elizabethtown, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

He was born in New Haven to Robert and Alice Puckett Wright. Gene was an U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church, Upton Masonic Lodge F&AM 76, American Legion Post 113 Elizabethtown, a retired federal employee, a retired postal worker at Fort Knox and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Wright; and his parents.

He is survived by a son, Robert "Bob" M. Wright of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Cathy (Hunter) Wright Cornett of Lexington; a sister, Velma Devine of Gilbert, Arizona; five grandchildren, Matthew (Jessie) Wright, Alexandra Cornett, Makayla Wright, Taylor Wright and Andersen Cornett; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral is at noon Saturday, May 19, at Manakee Funeral Home in Sonora with Pastor Joe Thomas officiating. Burial with military honors follows in Sonora Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and continues at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic service is at 7 p.m. Friday.
