Robert "Bob" Schaffner, 86, of Elizabethtown, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.

Bob was born June 6, 1926, in Muncie, Ind., and was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Edwards Schaffner; and his parents, Carl and Hazel Schaffner.
Bob is remembered for his passion, generosity and benevolence to his church, Northside Baptist Church, and his family. He was actively involved in the various ministries of Northside Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, and his former church, Stithton Baptist Church in Radcliff, where he served for more than 30 years as a deacon. Bob also served as a member of Radcliff Gideon Camp for more than 15 years.
Bob retired after 23 years as the first CEO of Fort Knox Federal Credit Union and served as the president of Citizens Bank of Elizabethtown, retiring again in 1988. Other organizations Bob was affiliated with included the Kentucky Credit Union League for 20 years and board member of Defense Credit Union Council for 12 years.
Survivors include five nephews; Bryan Schaffner and Brett Schaffner, both of Waynesville, Mo., Steve (Camellia) Edwards and Richard (Savona) Edwards, both of Greensburg, and Tony (Sharon) Edwards of Lawrenceburg; two nieces, Janet (Kendall) Spaulding, of Louisville and Marcia (Bill) Cowart of Richmond, Va.,; and a sister-in-law, Lorretta Edwards.
The funeral is at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Brothers Kevin Roberts and Gene Waggoner officiating. Interment follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and continues at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
