Steven Clark Barrowes, 73, scholar, father, grandfa-ther and devout Mormon, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, in Radcliff.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Thayer Clark Barrowes (Barrus) and Fern Isabella Rees Barrowes of Salt Lake City; and his older brother, Orlando "Lanny" Barrowes.
Steven is survived by his wife of 51 years, Hope Richardson Barrowes; six children, Wilford (Leslie), Thomas (Silva), Edward (Bridgette), Stephanie (Robert Hoskin), Winston (Jessica) and Benjamin (Masako); 23 grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. They adored their grandpa who sang to them and taught them math and proper behavior. He also is survived by his loving stepmother, Mary; and six siblings, Loana (Frank Anderson), Maevonne (Ron Whitaker), Kendall (Judy), Lowell (Norma), Reeba Barrows and Eldon (Terese). His many nieces and nephews remember Uncle Steven as an intelligent, thoughtful, Ph.D. who made physics understandable and always had a kind word to say to them.
His wife remembers his wit and vast knowledge of just about anything useful. She remembers his love and valiant efforts to overcome very difficult health issues without a complaint. He waited until he could be in her arms before he took his final breath. "We'll miss him, but we know his strong spirit lives on."
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Elizabethtown. Burial follows in North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
