Thomas Jefferson Ball Jr., 87, of Radcliff, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at his residence.
Fire Controlman 3rd Class, Mr. Ball was a veteran of the United States Navy. During the final stages of World War II in 1945 he was stationed on the USS Cofer and helped rescue American P.O.W.'s after the bombing of Hiroshima. He also was retired from RCA WhirlPool and UPS. Throughout his life he had received several awards for his blood donations to the American Red Cross.
His survivors include two children, Michael Ball of Taylor, Mich. and Sharron Wilson of Mansfield, Ohio; his longtime companion, Gladys Ryan of Radcliff; one brother, Virgil Ball of Radcliff; one sister, Ernestine Griffith of Akron, Ohio; a former wife, Louise Hafner of Mansfield; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service with military honors for Mr. Ball is at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
