Winifred Gail Stewart Glass, 88, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at her home.

She was a native of Hardin County and a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the senior choir and was active with the Pastors Aid, senior adults, Missionary Society and Officers' Wives. She was the 1986 St. Jude Bike-a-Thon chairwoman, Better Homes Club secretary and was a member of the Christian Women's Club of Hardin County, where she served as vocations chairwoman. She was a member of Rising Star Chapter No. 102 Order of Eastern Star, P.H.A. affiliated and was the past worthy matron. She was a member of the Democratic Women's Club of Hardin County. She was awarded the following appointments: Kentucky Commission on Human Rights commissioner and elected commission treasurer and Hardin County Democratic Executive Committee board member. She retired in 1974 from Fort Knox civil service after 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Claude Ray Glass; her parents, Arthur Benjamin and Ora Charlotte Brown Stewart; and four siblings; James Wardean Stewart, Geneva Stewart Freeman, Arthur Stewart Jr. and Della Stewart Bailey.

She is survived by a brother, Bernie Lee Stewart of Rowletts; one sister, America (Buddy) Simmons of Chicago; eight nephews, Earnest (Barbara) Freeman Jr. of Louisville, Larry (Carol) Simmons, Steve (Willa) Simmons and Arthur Simmons, all of Chicago, Tony (Denise) Stewart of Hodgenville, Ken Stewart of Sonora, Bryan (Fe) Stewart of Rowletts and James (Cornella) Stewart of Elizabethtown; and three nieces, Gwen (Donald) Drew and Brenda McGill, all of Elizabethtown, and Cassandra (Andrew) Stewart-Jones of Crestwood. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends of the Brashear, Cleaver and Stewart families.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at First Baptist Church of Elizabethtown with Dr. B.T. Bishop officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and continues at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. An Eastern Star service is at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
