Mr. Woodrow Boggs III was born in Elizabethtown on Aug. 28, 1960. He went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.
He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1978. He also attended Western Kentucky University pursuing studies in psychology. Woodrow worked at Lincoln Trail Hospital as a chemical dependency counselor for 15 years. He later took his experience and knowledge to Stepworks Addiction Resources, where he provided valuable counseling before accepting a civil service position at Fort Knox. While at Stepworks, he was presented with the Robert E. Straus Award given annually to a single clinician in the state, who exhibits exemplary commitment to the treatment of drug and alcohol dependency. He never met a stranger, his outgoing personality and good nature made him a person you always would remember.
He was an active member of St. Stephen Church and a proud member of the Tabernacle Choir. Woody's life revolved around love for family and church. Rarely would he miss attending Sunday school classes and morning worship at the Louisville campus.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Henrietta Crutcher and Jasper and Edna Cook; and a sister, Robin Parks.
He is survived by his parents, Retired Lt. Col. Thomas and Carolyn Cook; four sisters, Stephanie (Stuart) Melvin and Terra Cook, all of Elizabethtown, La Donna (Harold) Cook-Tyler of Plainfield, Illinois, and Heather Glenn of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Madoshi (Keisha) Kamara of Denver and Avery Taylor of St. Louis; and a host of loving nephews, nieces, relatives, extended family and close friends.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Severns Valley Baptist Church, 1100 Ring Road, Elizabethtown, with the Rev. Ken Jobst officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Stephen Church, Hardin County Campus, 401 W. Poplar St., Elizabethtown.
