James Lester McColpin, 63, of Bessemer City, N.C., passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Caromont Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 18, 1951, in Elizabethtown, the son of the late Roy F. and Antonia McColpin.
Jim was a supervisor for Chalmers and Kubeck, an U.S. Air Force veteran and a licensed private pilot.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Martin McColpin; and two brothers, Roy D. and Thomas H. McColpin.
James is survived by three brothers, Roger L. McColpin and his wife, Ruthann, of Kentucky, Col. Larry D. McColpin and his wife, Lisa, of Virginia and Gary G. McColpin and his wife, Debbie, of Kentucky; two nieces, Michelle and Antonia; three nephews, Jared, Gary Jr. and Darrell Drum; and his best friend and companion, his dog, Casey.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14 at Greene Funeral Service-South Chapel in Gastonia, N.C. with the Rev. Sam Barnette officiating. Entombment will be private.
Visitation is from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, South Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
