Lois Dean (Routt) Holman

The Guest Book is expired.

Lois Dean Routt Holman, 73, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

Lois was born Nov. 23, 1940, in Barren Run. She grew up on a dairy farm, where she learned a strong work ethic and cultivated her lifelong love of cooking.

Known as "Lois Dean" to her school friends, she was a 1958 graduate and cheerleader for Hodgenville High School.
She met her lifelong love, Jerry Holman, on a blind date. They were married in 1959. Lois helped Jerry with bookkeeping in his welding business.

She was able to live her dream of being a mother and homemaker for her husband and three children.

Lois was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.

Pleasure for Lois was found in the simple things of life. She often could be found watching her birds and especially hummingbirds, gardening, taking care of her flowers, cheering on her favorite football player, Peyton Manning, and watching sports. Lois had a deep love for the sport of football and was known as an avid supporter of UL athletics.

Lois was well-known for her great cooking. In her kitchen and in her home, laughter and love were the specialties of the Holman household and Lois was known for her sense of humor.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Hazle Routt; and Jerry Holman, her husband of 54 years.

She is survived by a sister, Oneida (Luther) Cochran of Hodgenville; two sons, Mike (Donna) Holman of Fishers, Indiana, and Jim (Laura) Holman of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Carol (Richard) Butler of Irvington; a grandson, Michael James Robert Holman; and three granddaughters, Hannah Holman, Hallie Holman and Ginny Dean Butler.
