Retired Lt. Col. Edward Arnold Sparrow, 86, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at his home.

He was a native of Shelbyville and a member of Northside Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Army, where he was a Korean War veteran and was a program manager with civil service, retiring with 43 years total service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #113, the AAFMAA, and Retired Officers Association and was a Kentucky Colonel. After retirement, he and his wife had a miniature horse farm in Hazelgreen, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha "Marty" Sparrow; a son, John W. Sparrow and his parents, Harold O. and Hattie M. Sparrow; and a sister, Julia E. Wiley.

He is survived by two sons, Edward A. Sparrow, Jr. of Elizabethtown and Harold W. Sparrow of Phoenix, Arizona; four daughters, Dianna "Dee Dee" Furlough of Newport News, Virginia, Vickie Shelby of Louisiana, Sandra "Sandi" Smith of Virginia and Jackie Bennett of Hagerstown, Maryland; one brother, Jay Jessie Sparrow of Bardstown; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.

The funeral is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Roberts officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and continue after noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
