Betty Jean DeWitt, 80, of Elizabethtown, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Hosparus Inpatient Pavilion in Louisville.
She was born July 3, 1934, in Center Point to Len and Delta Hornback.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. DeWitt; her parents; and her sister, Geneva.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline (John) Hamm of Louisville; her son, Robert S. (Jamie) DeWitt of Lexington; two grandchildren, Christopher L. (Brittany) Priddy and Sarah Catherine DeWitt; a precious great-grandchild, Foster Louis Priddy; a sister, Mayme Bland; a brother, Monty (Janie) Hornback; and a special niece, Sue Love.
Betty retired from the Hardin County School System. She will be remembered for her many years as secretary at West Hardin High
School in Stephensburg. Her time there, especially working with the students, was very important to her.
She was an avid Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan and enjoyed being able to watch every game on television while she resided at Helmwood Healthcare in Elizabethtown.
The funeral is at 3 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Charles Love officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday and continues at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
