Lawrence E. Barker, 58, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Lawrence was born in Schwetzingen, West Germany on March 16, 1954. He was a graduate of Fort Knox High School and the University of Louisville.
Upon graduation from the University of Louisville, Lawrence began a distinguished career in medicine. After several years in nursing, he trained to become one of only a handful of artificial heart technicians, working with renowned pioneers Dr. Robert Jarvik and Dr. William DeVries. He authored several articles on artificial heart technology in professional publica-tions. During the last half of his career, he served as a perfusionist, assisting in thousands of open-heart sur-geries. In addition to his long career in medicine, Lawrence was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Claude S. and Liselotte A. Barker; and a sister, Linda R. Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Barker of Fort Stockton; two stepchildren; a sister, Marcella Salts-man of Lebanon Junction; a brother, Marvin (Robin) Barker of Elizabethtown; and three loving nieces, Sara E. Barker of Nashville, Tenn.; Hannah L. Barker of Elizabethtown and Brittany N. Saltsman of Louisville.
Prayer services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on April 26.
