William F. Diefenbach, 83, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

He was a native of Buffalo, N.Y., a Korean War Marine veteran and a life member of V.F.W., The Chosin Few, American Legion and the Korean War Veterans Association. He also was a deputy for the Erie County Sheriff's Department and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Charles and Edith L. Storm Diefenbach.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Shoemaker Diefenbach; two daughters, Julie (Robert) Meyer of Grand Island, N.Y., and Paula (Charles) Grimm of Radcliff; one son, William (Susan) Diefenbach of Grand Island; six grandchildren, Robert Meyer, Ste-ven Meyer, Jason Grimm, Sarah Grimm, William Diefenbach and Katherine Diefenbach; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
