Charles Herbert ""Lightning"" Henning, 82, of Hardinsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Hardinsburg on Jan. 22, 1930, the son of the late Joseph Robert and Mary Jessie Payne Henning. He retired from the federal government as a meat inspector, was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of St. Romuald Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Hardinsburg VFW. He was very involved with his church, working the annual picnic, ushering at weekly Masses and midnight mass. Lightning was a very generous man and lived to help others. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carwile Henning, the love of his life; and eight brothers and sisters, Mary Eloise Henning, Mary Kathleen Bland, Raymond Edward ""Jack"" Henning, Joseph Earl Henning, Robert Vincent ""Bob"" Henning, Mary Jane Oelze, Marie Theresa Henning and James Lonzo Henning. Lightning is survived by two children, Cindy Miles and her husband, Rick, of Rineyville and Randall Henning of Hardinsburg; two grandsons, Brandon Miles and his wife, Kari, of Vine Grove and Eric Miles of Rineyville; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Adilyn Miles; and several nieces and nephews including Robbie Carwile and his wife, Peggy, of McQuady. The funeral is at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Romuald Catholic Church with the Rev. Tony Bickett officiating. Burial with military honors follows in the church cemetery.
