Edward Y. Mason of Elizabethtown, born Feb. 2, 1910, entered into eternal rest Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown at the age of 102.

Mr. Mason was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. During his life he enjoyed raising horses and livestock. He served as mayor of West Point for 13 years, which he often referred to as "The Garden Spot of Kentucky." He was employed by Dupont Chemical Plant for more than 30 years. In addition, he was associated with Manakee Funeral Home for more than 30 years. It is believed that he held the oldest continued license as a funeral director and embalmer in the state of Kentucky. Mr. Mason was a member of Plumb Lodge No. 862 in Louisville for more than 55 years. Numerous friends along his life journey fondly referred to him as "Dad Mason."

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Katherine; two sons, Robert and Edward Mason; his parents, R.E. and Lilly Mason; a brother, Charles Taylor Mason; a sister, Maxine Skidmore; and a granddaughter, Mary Katherine Mason.

He is survived by a son, Charles T. Mason of Elizabethtown; a beloved daughter-in-law, Rebecca Shaver Mason (Robert) Irvine of Louisville; two grandchildren, Debbie McClure Mason (James) Garner and James Edward (Dr. Leigh Anne Pearman) Mason; six great-grandchildren, Anne Elizabeth Mason, Rebecca McClure Garner, James Garner Jr., David Garner, Isabelle Ilari and Ian Ilari; and a very special caregiver, Linda Hardin.

The funeral is at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Elmer Varnadore officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown City Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, and continues from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A Masonic service is at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Crusade for Children.
