Helen Christine Vertrees, 90, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.

She was a native of LaRue County and a longtime member of Meeting Creek Baptist Church. She recently started attending Nolynn Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Wilbur Vertrees; her parents, Ova and Lula Preston Simmons; a son, Dale Vertrees; a brother, Winford Simmons; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include a son, Larry (Lorna) Vertrees of Elizabethtown; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Vertrees of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Cynthia (Charles) Slinker and Jean Wise, all of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren, Michael (Johna) Vertrees and Jason (Samantha) Vertrees, all of Elizabethtown, Kristi (Keith) Miller of Eastview, Barbara (Eugene) Bryant of Bonnieville, Brian (Christy) Vertrees of Sonora and Amanda (Keith) Fields of Upton; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. George Smith officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
