W.B. ""Byron"" Long, 76, of Nashville, Tenn., died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, after a short illness.

He was born Sept. 11, 1936, to Dr. Charles F. and Violet Lyon Long of Elizabethtown.

He was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School. He was a kind and gentle person and told it like it was. He was a big University of Kentucky basketball fan and loved cars, Dixieland music, his church and family. He was a Gideon and a member of the F.O.P. He worked for Independent Life Insurance Company and Berry Hill Police Department.

He was preceded in death by brother, Charles Long; and a sister, Jane Mikkelson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Brown Long; two sisters, Elsie Bolender of Lex-ington and Beverly Adcock of Moultrie, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is at noon EDT today, Aug. 20, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with inter-ment to follow in Elizabethtown City Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
