Emma Arner Obituary

Emma Jean Simmons Arner

August 22, 1923 -

December 3, 2013

Born to the late John and Nettie Wright Toler, in Hermanville, Mississippi, Emma Jean graduated from Quitman High School in 1939, received her B.S. in Accounting from Louisiana Tech in 1942 and her M.B.A. from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 1969, and passed her CPA exam in 1970. She worked as an accountant until she retired from CenturyTel in 1985.

A member at Fair Park Baptist Church, she was involved with the Christmas Angel ministry and supported Native American missions. She loved to read, travel, and spend time with her family, especially at holidays when her chicken and dressing were much in demand.

She was preceded in death by her husband George W. (Bill)Arner and her brother Robbie G. Toler. She is survived by two children: Lyneta Coats (granddaughter Gerri Coats Rankin, great-granddaughter Taylar Alexis Rankin) and Wayne Simmons (wife Bonnie), special neighbor Mrs. Sue, and a host of extended family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Sam Coleman, Gary Hines, Robert Lawrence, Michael Rankin, Patrick Taylor, Patrick Sumbler, and Steve Walker.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to three special "angels" who went above and beyond during their mother's final illness: Megan, Dustin, and Sinaca. We want them to know how much we appreciate their care and support.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Services will be conducted by Rev. Andy Myrick and Rev. R. C. Smith at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the chapel. Burial will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe.
